All Sportack® BioThane® is made to order and not returnable, so it is important to get the correct fit for your horse's. Our Arab and Horse sizes come with several inches of adjustment in both directions. If you wish to custom size your tack or to make sure the size you chose will fit your horse, here is how you measure:
Headstalls:
Measure the horse's head. Do not measure existing tack. Make these measurements actual - meaning flush against the horse's skin - not as you think the tack should fit. We will add the necessary adjustments to insure the correct fit.
- Measure from the upper corner of the mouth up over the poll (top of the head, behind the ears) to other upper corner of the mouth.
- Measure completely around the nose about 2-3 finger widths below the cheek bone. Make sure to start and end at the same place.
- Measure completely around the throat. Start behind one ear and make a complete circle around the entire throat back to where you started.
- Measure across the entire brow. Keep in mind that the brow band extends back behind the ears.
Breastcollars:
Measure the horse with the saddle on. Measure the horse's body. Do not measure existing tack. Make these measurements actual - meaning flush against the horse's skin - not as you think the tack should fit. We will add the necessary adjustments to insure the correct fit.
- Measure from the front d-ring on the saddle to the center of the horse's chest (about 1 hand width below where the neck meets the chest).
- Measure from the center of the chest (about 1 hand width below where the neck meets the chest) through the front legs to the ring on the girth/cinch, or to the back of the girth/cinch if there is no ring on the girth/cinch.
BioThane Approximate Sizing:
If you are unsure what size your horse may be, it is always good to take measurements for comparison. Use these sizing charts to help determine your horse's size. If your measurements do not fit under Arab or Horse you will need to custom-size your tack. There is no extra charge for custom-made tack.
