Saddle Pads

Toklat Saddle Pads, without exception, are the finest saddle pads made and are the most widely used among endurance riders today.  We carry a wide range of styles to fit most every type of trail and endurance saddle. Toklat Woolback pads are made from virgin wool fiber and are the coolest, most natural material to put on your horse's back for those long distance rides. All pads are 100% machine washable and with proper care will provide years of cushioned protection for your horse.

All Toklat pads are only available in Western Cut (long-pile) wool.

How to Measure for a Pad

All measurements should be taken from the underneath side of the saddle.

For Western/Endurance styles:

  1. Front-Back: Measure from front of saddle skirting to back of saddle skirting.
  2. Side-Side: Measure from the bottom of saddle skirting on one side to the bottom of the skirting on the other side.

For English styles:

  1. Front-Back: Measure from front of panel to back of panel.
  2. Flap to Flap: Measure from bottom of the saddle flap on one side to bottom of the saddle flap on the other side.
  3. Flap Width: Measure from the front of the saddle flap to the back of the saddle flap at the widest point.

Care instructions for Woolback material:

Brushing: Woolback pads are made with natural fibers which require different care than a standard poly-fleece pad. Brushing your Woolback pad before or after each use will increase the longevity of the pad and keep you from having to wash it so often. After the pad has dried, brush off the dried sweat and dirt as often as you have time for. We recommend that you use a wire toothed brush (dog slicker brushes work the best and can be purchased inexpensively at your local pet store).

Machine washing: Wash on cold, using a light detergent (like Woolite) or use horse shampoo (recommended) to prevent irritation from detergents on your horse's skin. You might want to wash twice - the second time not using any soap to make sure that it is rinsed completely. Fluff in dryer - NO HEAT (or you'll end up with an itty-bitty pad) for about 10 mins. Remove from dryer and lay flat to dry - avoid direct sun. After dry, brush the fleece with a wire-toothed brush to fluff and remove any excess hairs.
